Meetings are held in the first room on the left as you enter the Parish Centre.
Time: 7:30pm
Date: 1st Monday of month
Venue: St James’ Church Parish Centre, Walter Road, Uplands, Swansea SA1 4QF.
All Labour Party members are welcome to attend.
What Happens at Branch Meetings?
All Labour Party members living in Uplands are welcome to attend branch meetings. We discuss what our Uplands Labour councillors and other elected representatives have been up to, talk about national and local Labour Party policy, contribute campaign and community-action suggestions, update on the progress of activity, and vote on motions / ideas that members put forward. Members are welcome to speak to the group on any topic of interest or concern, and we also try to allow time for more informal conversation.
While there is an established ‘etiquette’ to Branch Meetings, in terms of the agenda and how the meetings are organised, which can seem a bit formal at first, please don’t let that put you off coming. The objective of these meetings is to bring members together to discuss, debate and collaborate on matters of concern to Labour Party members, and local residents. If too much ‘procedure’ gets in the way of that, then we’ll need to look at changing the procedures!
If you’re a new (or old!) member and have attended a meeting, we would love to hear your feedback.
If you’d like more information about branch meetings, please contact us. You are welcome to just turn up, no need to register. What Happens at Constituency Meetings?
All Labour Party members living in Swansea West are welcome to attend Swansea West Constituency Labour Party (CLP) meetings. These typically take place at the Guildhall in the main Council Chamber.
Typically, our elected representatives (our MP Geraint Davies and our AM Julie James) provide reports of what they have been doing, and take questions (time permitting). Some members who serve as ‘delegates’ to affiliated groups and bodies, locally and nationally, (which means they attend those meetings on behalf of the CLP) may provide reports to keep everyone informed of the work of these affiliated groups. Then, members are invited to speak briefly (for a minute or two) on any matter of interest or concern – something that you want your MP or AM to be aware of, an issue you are concerned about, a local policy suggestion, your view on a national issue, etc. You can also just come along and listen – it’s interesting to understand more about the work of the Constituency Labour Party and to hear directly from your elected representatives.
CLP meetings are intended to be welcoming, they can be a forum for lively debate, and they are also quite formal in the way they operate, to ensure an orderly discussion. Again, there is an established ‘etiquette’, in terms of the agenda and how the meetings are organised, which can seem a bit intimidating / tedious to some. For more informal conversation, all members are invited to meet in the Westbourne pub, immediately following each meeting.
If you’re a new (or old!) member and have attended a Constituency Labour Party (CLP) meeting, we would love to hear your feedback, which we will pass on to the CLP Secretary.
